Some patients with minor alignment issues affecting their most visible teeth can take advantage of Invisalign® Express. Instead of the traditional series of 20 to 30 aligners, Invisalign Express involves 10 trays or fewer. This rapid system works the same way as traditional Invisalign, by wearing each aligner for about two weeks apiece for 20 to 22 hours a day. Can you get Invisalign at any age?
Invisalign works for patients of all ages who have their adult teeth and need to correct mild to moderate dental misalignment. Age is not as important as responsibility when it comes to clear aligners. If you can commit to wearing the trays every day as instructed, Invisalign can help you.
Do Invisalign aligners hurt?
The purpose of orthodontic treatment is to use pressure to move the teeth into the proper position. That being said, it is normal to feel slightly tender or sore as you get used to wearing each new aligner. Most patients find that Invisalign is much more comfortable than traditional braces. You also avoid the irritation to the inside of your mouth that frequently results from metal brackets and archwires.
How do I clean my Invisalign aligners?
Clean your aligners every time you go to brush and floss your teeth. Gently but thoroughly scrub the interior of the tray with a soft-bristled toothbrush. You can use a distilled vinegar solution or an antibacterial soap instead of toothpaste, which can be abrasive against the smooth plastic. Rinse the trays in lukewarm water, as hot temperatures can warp their shape.
What should I do if I lose my clear aligner?
If you misplace or accidentally dispose of one of your clear aligners, please contact our Fairfax office. Your dentist will give you instructions on how to proceed. We sometimes recommend wearing the previous aligner in the series, so don't throw them out in case of an emergency. To avoid these situations in the first place, do not store your aligners on napkins, paper plates, or other disposable tableware when you eat.
Are the results permanent?
The results from Invisalign can last a lifetime when you follow all post-treatment instructions. Patients will need to wear a retainer (or the last aligner tray in the series) at night to prevent their teeth from shifting back into their previous positions.
