The Clear Difference between Invisalign and Traditional Metal Braces

How Do Invisalign Clear
Aligners Differ from Metal Braces?

More Comfortable

These sturdy aligners are made from smooth plastic, so there are no sharp metal wires or brackets to irritate your gums and mouth.

Barely Visible

Invisalign clear aligners are practically invisible when worn over your teeth. Unlike traditional braces, they're hard to see when you speak or smile.

Easily Removable

Traditional braces are fixed in place, requiring patients to avoid some foods. Alternatively, with Invisalign, you can just take out your aligners when it's mealtime, snack time, or coffee time.

No Change in Oral Hygiene

While traditional braces can be tough to clean and often need extra care, Invisalign patients can brush and floss normally once they've removed their aligners.

Can Work Faster Than Braces

Depending on the severity of your misalignment and your unique smile goals, certain Invisalign treatments may be able to straighten your teeth in as little as six months.

See-Through, Nearly Invisible Aligners

The most obvious cosmetic benefit of Invisalign is how the clear aligners almost vanish when you put them on.

The Invisalign Timeline

From Start to Finish

Our dentists will closely examine your smile and make a precise 3-D digital model of your bite. We will discuss your cosmetic and oral health goals and help you decide if Invisalign is the best choice for you.

Treatment Plan

Next, your customized treatment plan is created. You'll find out how many aligners you'll need to achieve your goals. We can even use 3-D digital animation to show you how your teeth will gently shift over the coming months to improve the look and function of your smile.

After we send your precise impressions to a certified Invisalign lab, it will take a few weeks for your clear aligners to be created out of strong, smooth plastic.

Wear Your Aligners

It's time to start wearing your aligners. Try your best to wear them at least 20 to 22 hours a day, removing them only when you eat, brush, floss, or drink anything besides water. Each new set of aligners will feel extra snug when you first put them in, but you'll get used to that quickly.

Switch Aligners

You will switch to the next aligners in your series about every two weeks. Keep the most previous aligners in case you lose your current ones. You can throw older ones away.

We'll want to see you every four to six weeks to make sure your teeth are shifting as planned.

Final Results

Your commitment to the Invisalign process will pay off with a dramatically realigned smile! We may recommend customized Invisalign retainers to wear overnight to prevent your teeth from shifting out of alignment.

Cost and Insurance

The cost of Invisalign is comparable to the cost of traditional braces. Each patient's total treatment cost is unique depending on the number of aligners required to straighten the smile. Patients agree that the benefits of Invisalign make this orthodontic system a worthy investment.

The good news is that many insurance plans will cover a good portion of Invisalign treatment. Our knowledgeable staff can help you review your policy and maximize your benefits.

To help patients afford any additional costs, we proudly offer financing through CareCredit®, a third-party lender that allows you to pay for dentistry or orthodontics in manageable monthly installments.
